Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP)

The statutory requirement for Local Safeguarding Children Boards (LSCBs) to undertake the functions relating to child deaths is set out in Chapter 7 of Working Together to Safeguard Children (HM Government 2006). There are two interrelated processes for revewing child deaths: a rapid response by key professionals to enquire into each unexpected child death; and an overview of all child deaths in the LSCB area(s) underaken by a panel.

Bolton, Salford and Wigan LSCBs agreed to form a tri-partite panel for the purpose of reviewing the deaths of children resident in these three areas. The panel comprises of representatives from the relevant disciplines across the three local authority areas (that is, there is not a representative from each disciple from each authority).
