Safe Sleeping
Wigan Safeguarding Children Board ‘Safe Sleeping’ Campaign is a multi agency partnership piece of work aiming to ensure reduction in baby deaths related to safe sleeping conditions. Every year in the UK approx 300 babies die in their sleep from different risk factors. Data from the North West indicates that there is a greater risk in our local area (Bolton, Salford and Wigan) of this occurring and lessons have been learned from such deaths of young children within our 3 areas. This campaign was launched the week commencing 27th June where a series of events took place at local supermarkets and the Grand Arcade in Wigan culminating in the main event at the Maternity Unit at Wigan Hospital on 30th June. Wigan LSCB is working with Bolton and Salford Safeguarding Children Boards to co-ordinate this launch in all 3 areas related to lessons learned from the Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) for Bolton, Salford and Wigan. This is the start of a 3 year programme intended to raise awareness of the risk factors that can lessen the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
